A History of the Social Service Auxiliary

Founded in 1941, the Social Service Auxiliary began assisting the Sisters of Social Service with their work in San Diego County. Auxiliary membership consists of women from all over San Diego, who make a commitment of their time and diverse talent to raise funds for the Sister's projects, which include Camp Oliver in Descanso. Other assistance is given Bayside Settlement House and the Campership Council.

For over 20 years the Wine & Roses Charity Wine Tasting has generated funds for Camp Oliver.

The Social Service Auxiliary welcomes you to the 27th Annual Wine & Roses Charity Wine Tasting event

We hope that you will join us, Sunday, June 13, 2010, for a wonderful afternoon tasting delicious Wines and eating foods from some of San Diego's best restaurants. We urge you to view the information regarding the wineries and restaurants, which will be represented at Wine & Roses. All the wineries and restaurants at Wine & Roses graciously donate their time, their food, or their wine. We thank them for their generosity, and their willingness to help us support our charities, and we urge you to patronize their businesses.

Wine & Roses is an outdoor event, which takes place at the Westgate Hotel San Diego, located at 1055 Second Ave, across from the Horton Plaza Shopping Mall. The event will take place in the Terrace, on the third floor. We will transform the Terrace into a lovely flowering garden.

Wine & Roses is a companion event to the San Diego International Wine Competition. The Competition is held in April, each year. The wines, which are awarded medals at the Competition, agree to donate a case of their award winning wine to Wine & Roses. We then sell the cases of wine, at discounted prices, in our Wine Cellar, at Wine & Roses. We urge you to visit the Wine Cellar and stock up on the award winning cases of wine.

Wine & Roses will continue the tradition of sending children to summer camp at Camp Oliver. You supply the means, by attending Wine & Roses and purchasing cases of wine, and we supply the children who wish to attend camp, but who otherwise would not be able to attend camp because of the cost. What a wonderful combination for happiness. A week of fun may be the one thing in a child's life that they can hold onto. A roasted hot dog or a burnt marshmallow, over an open fire, is a memory that will warm their lives forever. Camp Oliver is the place where memories are made, thanks to your generosity.

We owe a final thank you to all the volunteers who assist with Wine & Roses. Wine & Roses is run by volunteers, and without them, our event would not take place. We thank each of you for your many hours of hard work.
